In 1994 she was chosen as Artist of the Year by the White Wind Wildlife Society & was featured artist for the Ruffed Grouse Society for two consecutive years.
The first hand knowledge of Marion's subject matter is the artist's hallmark. Her work is of individual birds and animals she and her husband, Gary, have studied while banding birds and operating a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at their country home. Many years were spent in the Hudson Bay area of Canada banding shorebirds on the pack ice and studying the Polar Bear.
Her watercolors are distinct in their soft reality. The mood is created with color and the vitality of the lifelike subject. After intensive study (5 years for the polar bear) a painting is created. The bear paintings not only show the strength and elusive presence of this magnificent animal, but the vastness of its Arctic surroundings, giving the sense of freedom and space. |
